Sigma Kappas with the King of Hearts

Our chapter is very excited about our new philanthropy event that took place this fall!  Our King of Hearts male beauty contest was a huge success and hit on UNO's campus.  All proceeds went to our Alzheimer's Disease philanthropy, and the philanthropy of the winning Fraternity!

We also created a partnership with Ville St. Marie, a local assisted living center to play Bingo, attend various functions like their Luau Party, do arts and crafts, and visit with the wonderful people there!  We also did a Fashion Show involving our members and the residents at Ville St. Marie! Our chapter hopes to hold a Senior Prom for the residents at the centers to dress up, dance, and enjoy a nice event.  It's amazing how most never forget how to dance!  This event is part of our genrontology philanthropy.

Our first annual kick ball tournament,Kick in the Grass, was held on April 27th on campus for all UNO organizations to participate in to help us raise money for Alzheimer's Disease Research. We had 7 teams participate including Tau Kappa Epsilon, Phi Kappa Theta, Lambda Chi Alpha, Student Activities Council, a team from Privateer Place, and other independent teams.  Congratulations to out to Tau Kappa Epsilon for winning 1st place in the tournament!

Sigma Kappa Chapters across the country are selling Lollipops to help Lick Alzheimer's Disease.  We are trying to raise as much money as we can for the disease and increase awareness for the fight against Alzheimer's Disease.  Sigma Kappa is the second largest national contributor to the Alzheimer's Disease Research Foundation.

Community Service

Sigma Kappa Sorority provides many opportunities for members to become involved in community service and philanthropic projects. Chapters across the country support Sigma Kappa philanthropies, which include:

Gerontology

In 1954 Sigma Kappa became the first national sorority to recognize the need for continued, comprehensive work on the study of aging and the needs of elderly populations. Collegiate and alumnae members throughout the country volunteer their time and talent in support of numerous projects to assist and benefit the elderly.

Alzheimer's Disease

In 1984 Sigma Kappa responded to an increasingly critical problem facing older Americans by adding Alzheimer's Disease research and education to its philanthropic activities. Research grants are made each year to universities and other institutions actively engaged in the fight against Alzheimer's Disease.
